Let’s talk about how to begin some Daily Affirmations for the New Year. But first, let me add, if you’re reading this March 12th or June 20th or even October 17…start right away! It’s never too late to start training or re-training our minds. And this re-training of our minds will eventually change the way we talk to ourselves, how we think about other people, and what our perceptions are of situations. Using daily affirmations–truths we tell ourselves–will only have a positive impact on our life and the lives of those around us.
Daily Affirmations for the New Year
How many of us tell ourselves, “This year will be better!” How many of still believe it one week into the New Year? Let me tell you something, making this year better begins in my own mind. My husband, my children, my best friend, a clean floor, even paying off our house will not make this year better. Where I let my thoughts focus and the words I speak to myself are the only sure way to make a year better. This means I have the power to make the year worse as well. It all depends on what and how I speak to myself, especially during hard and stressful times.
You know the one that stood out to me as I read through those…It will be worth it. When we decide our priorities, we are being intentionally minded about what we say ‘yes’ to and what we say ‘no’ to. And no’s are hard sometimes. Especially if the thing we are saying no to is fun, or everyone else is doing it or if it’s a good thing. But taking the time to run opportunities and ideas through our priority filter will help make the no’s worth it and will make the yes’ so much sweeter.
I’ve embraced my vocation as wife, mother, and homeschooler. The long days (and nights sometimes) of hands-on hearts on teaching and training will be worth it. The choices to be here rather than there will be worth it. The choices not spend frivolously so I can give generously will be worth it. The choices to remain steady in my focus and intention will be worth it.
Choosing to follow–for the most part–eating the Trim Healthy Mama way will be worth it in more ways than just losing almost 25 pounds in 2014. My body feels better. My mind is clearer. Recognizing my strong family history of Diabetes and making food choices that are healthier for me with that predisposition will be worth it.
I have chosen to respond to a call I feel God has given me to share my thoughts and words here on The Littlest Way blogging. The long nights, the vulnerability, people scoffing at me being a blogger, and the learning curve of bogging will be worth it. And for every ugly, nasty, and condescending email or remark I receive, there are double the positive, kind, and encouraging ones. And even if there weren’t the balance, it would still be worth it because I know this is something I am called to do.
I have made the choice to live my life as a Christ follower. Striving each day to hear His voice and follow His commands, dressing modestly, reading His Word, setting aside parts of my day and week for Him alone in an extremely unchristian world will be worth it. “…in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?” •Psalm 56:11 and “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” •John 15:18
Print these Daily Affirmations for the New Year and the reminder that “It will be worth it” off and tape them to your bathroom mirror, place them in your Notetaker’s Bible for Bible Journaling or devotional journal, or write them on 3×5 cards to carry in your purse. Make these daily affirmations a priority in your day and your year will be better because you’ve chosen to make it so.
I love the idea someone had of choosing a pretty journal and keeping all of our daily affirmations written in it, maybe even one per page. We can flip through and read them, or choose one a day to focus on for the entire day. This pretty journal will be like our own cheering squad, but even better because we will be cheering ourselves on! Here are some pretty ones at Dayspring.

Late happy birthday to you! It was a great day for a birthday (it was also my youngest sister’s b’day!).
I have never actually been convinced that New Year’s resolutions “work” for me. A year is a LONG time! I have tried more and more to make daily goals to live by, especially using daily devotions from various sources. What I appreciate here are your affirmations. I believe I will adopt the one that has jumped out at me “I am never alone”. Surrounding me with that very presence of God and Our Lord each day can only shore me up with His love and strength.
This puts me in mind of a great little book, “The Practicing of the Presence of God” written by Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection. I should read it again this year. It’s short and most of it is written to a nun or religious but the truth and maxims can apply to anyone. Just need to live in our vocation and be with God at all times! YOU ARE NEVER ALONE!
Jenny says
I love I am never alone. I agree that a year is a long time! Thanks for the reminder of the book. Over the holidays I picked up a purse copy to keep in my purse for those moments when I have a little patch of time to read.
