Life seems to be moving way faster than I am right now…but doesn’t it always? It seems from morning to night I am in perpetual motion (even if only mentally). Even the planet we live on is in constant motion! We live in an age where some of the most intriguing words woven into stories or presented as information are instantly available and I find myself skipping through them. Or worse, reading something and wanting to discuss it with a friend only to find they didn’t read it–and vice versa. There are also so many, many words that I believe are only meant to kill, steal and destroy. Some of us have to be…all of us should be, very intentional about taking in only the good, true and beautiful. Here are some of my recent finds–almost like rummaging through an old antique store huh? Proof that there are some good treasures to be found while wandering the world wide web. Enjoy this Here and There post and please, if you’ve found a lovely treasure on the web this week, share it in the comments section.
Here and There: Start a Fire
Let’s start this post with some music, Start A Fire by Unspoken
Speaking of fires, Leila Lawler, author of The Little Oratory: A Beginner’s Guide to Praying in the Home and blogger at Like Mother Like Daughter, maybe best known as Auntie Leila, wants us to start a fire–a bonfire! Head over to her post, Changing the World with a Bonfire to read more.
I know this is too late for Father’s Day, but one of our local radio station personalities was talking about this charcoal grill fire starter.
And, have you ever wondered why Catholics light candles? And what do they mean when someone asks them for prayer and they respond, “I’ll light a candle.”
“The light signifies our prayer offered in faith coming into the light of God. With the light of faith, we petition our Lord in prayer, or petition the saint to pray with us and for us to the Lord. The light also shows a special reverence and our desire to remain present to the Lord in prayer even though we may depart and go about our daily business.”
–Fr. William Saunders
And the practice of “lighting a candle” for someone, according to Ann Ball, author of The How-To Book of Sacramentals: Everything You Need to Know But No One Ever Taught You, “Lighting a candle is a way of extending one’s prayer and showing solidarity with the person on whose behalf the prayer is offered.” For me, it also keeps that person and their intention in the front of my mind. When I walk by a candle I’ve lit for some intention, my prayer is renewed as it may have slipped to the back of my mind as I go through my day.
And finally, here’s a Pinterest Board devoted to S’mores…all 718 pins! This just might be the board to browse to get ready for your bonfire this week.

YESSS to Bonfires!! We are so looking forward to a few this summer, once the lower field dries out. We’ve been under a burn ban for almost 7 years now because of the drought, but now? NOW we can have a fire again!!
Thinking about s’mores already!

Amazing what little spark can do. It can burn the whole city if not stopped. 🙂
Great read.

Especially today, the day after, it’s humbling to wonder and consider what one person, one prayer, one vote can actually accomplish.

Thank you so much for linking to my bonfire post! I love how your links are fire-themed 🙂

Of course! We are huge fans of sitting around a bonfire, roasting marshmallows…squishing them between graham crackers, chocolate and good conversation…or no conversation at all. A good bonfire draws people into each other’s presence like moths to a flame and it is grace, this meeting of souls.
