Let’s see how much of a rambler I can be in this post. Been a couple of days huh? Let’s start this homesteading on a small farm post off this way…for a husband who doesn’t have to travel for work…he’s been traveling. And since he’s been traveling, I of course come down with an ear infection, in both ears…because I’m like a six year old. Let’s move on more positive ramblings shall we…
Homesteading on a Small Farm: Ramblings
We finally started planting our garden today. The weeds had taken over so I used a shovel to break up the roots…I love the sound of roots tearing. And a couple of children came along behind me pulling up the grass and weeds. We only planted two beds so far; a bed of peppers and a bed of tomatoes. We also planted a flower bed just because.
I cannot stop listening to this song…FireFly by Shawn MacDonald. His story is incredible by the way; God’s mercy is far and wide my friends.
We’re working hard to finish out the school year, but you know…ear infections, travel, teens, toddlers and toilets to be scrubbed. We’re getting there, but it’s more like a limp than a victory lap. I cannot believe next year my oldest will be graduating! I cannot believe we’ve been homeschooling that long! I cannot believe my youngest is only three so I have like 25 more years of homeschooling ahead of me!!
Is that arrow pointing up or down? Depends on if you are having a glass half full or glass half empty kind of day…week…month…
I of course am having a glass half full kind of life because I choose joy.
Oh, I created a banner…remember? I wrote a post last week about creating/choosing a banner from Minted. Well, it came in and Veronica and Anna helped me hang it. I love it!
And finally, if you’ve made it this far, God bless you. I’ve already got the candle lit, so if you have some prayer requests, leave them in the comments or email me. And for real finally, if things are quite here, I may still be posting on my Instagram account so visit me over there.

Thank you for this post…There are so many places in our world that need prayer right now…Just holding them all in God’s heart…

“Ramblings” – I do the same. That’s life with so much to do and so little time or hands to do it all. Life is a blur isn’t it. Thanks for the reminder to enjoy the moments even through the pain of ear infections – in both ears of all things?!! Take care and – your pop-up for Facebook link is adorable!

That cute little face belongs to my now almost 7yo!
Christina says
Jenny, I am listening to Firefly right now as I comment while sitting outside looking at our yard and a fire in the fire pit. Love your heart and taste in music.
Jenny says
Thank you Christina. Music has a way of touching the soul, setting the mood and creating or recalling memories. Sounds like a lovely evening.
Cathy says
Thank you for lighting the candle. That picture made me sigh in relief! Could you please lift up my daughter and her family in your prayer? Thank you – they struggle with many issues.
God bless…
Jenny says
Yes Cathy, your daughter and her family. The family is under fierce attack in this world. many prayers of strength and prudence.
Just Plain Marie says
Oh, earaches are awful. They’re up there with tooth ache, sinus infection and migraine.
Remember our finances in your prayers, and my husband’s knee. Related issues. Sigh. A knee that’s giving out is bad when you’re a sawyer.
You may appreciate – my mother-in-law was asked to be at the ceremony in which a friend of hers was made a Bishop in Africa. She sent us back a little wooden figurine representing the Holy Family.
Jenny says
Yes, prayers for your husband. Our men–husbands and fathers–are always so close to my heart. I bet your figurine is just lovely!

if we can start out our homes with joy 😀

Happy Friday! Thanks for that candle. Really gives me hope that someone out there is selfless enough to think about and lift up my concerns for me.
Those are lovely photos. And I believe we can find God everywhere but especially so in the garden. His presence seems stronger when we’re surrounded by nature. 🙂
Jenny says
You are so welcome. I love the visual reminder of the candle to keep those prayers and intentions in the front of my mind.
Amy Caroline says
I wish I could garden. I just kill plants.
Jenny says
Amy, I never said I was good at it, lol! As a matter of fact, as soon as it gets hot and weedy, I’m so outta there!
Kori Tomelden says
Thank you for sharing this peek into your life! We’re getting ready to start informal homeschooling with our youngest… she’s not even two yet.
Jenny says
Good luck as you start out! My best words of wisdom…simple, fun, simple.
Brandi @ penguinsinpink says
Keep giving yourself grace. You’ll get it all done maybe not today but it’ll get done. Praying for your healing.
Jenny says
Thanks Brandi. I know it will get done. Sometimes it would be nice to see the when and how though right?
Emily says
Beautiful flowers! That is exciting that you started planting your garden. We are not ready for planting yet, but probably should get our plan down!
Jenny says
We are pushing it by planting a little later than normal, but you know, life. We’ve also scaled back this year, which I am sure will still be more than enough.
Sheila @ BrainPowerBoy says
Thanks for an enjoyable post. So glad to see someone choosing joy (even with an ear ache!) Always good to take the path that leads to grateful.
Jenny says
Thanks Sheila. You are so right, always good to choose the grateful path…always good to realize I am the only one that can make that choice.
