Welcome to the Daybook. A weekly post here at The Littlest Way where I gather all the ordinary things that happen or are happening in my day to day. Things like what I’m reading or listening to, eating, cleaning, and learning. These are the small moments that make up my blessed daily life and I want to remember them. My prompts may change depending on season and circumstance.
Thanking God for…

Praying…
Ladies, I am asking for your prayers. Friday the 24th of March I will be having a hysterectomy. I am begging your prayers for a successful surgery, no complications–spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally, quick and easy recovery. After numerous conversations with my husband first, my spiritual director second and my doctor third, I am at peace with this decision. I am scared of surgery and complications.
Pondering…
“What am I striving to become? Are all my efforts directed to that end?”
Listening to…
The dishwasher is running and my computer is humming. It’s late and quiet.
Reading…
The New Jerusalem Bible, Reader’s Edition
I know I said I’m challenging myself and my sister to a “No spend Lent” but y’all, I needed to buy this book, Deliverance Prayers: For Use by the Laity. If you don’t think the enemy is real, prowling about at all times, seeking to devour you–your marriage–your family–your children–your souls…you are crazy and you need to let me know so I can start praying for you.
Bible Journaling…
I just posted my recent Bible journaling entry using the “Free to Flourish” kit from Illustrated Faith. This is my favorite kit so far.
Around the House…
Veronica painted the shower area for the master bathroom and our living room! The living room had not been painted since 2005. We chose a butter yellow. It compliments our honey colored, 1984 house wood nicely. I debated on adding a little brown or gold to it, but I think it would have just made it look like dirty dishwater. She painted in exchange for a cuple months off her car insurance and phone bill…Totally worth it! She did a great job.
In the Kitchen…
In preparation for my surgery and because I’m not entirely sure what six weeks recovery really means, I’m going to freeze a couple of meat loves and breakfast casseroles this week. Leo requested Jalapeno Popper Chicken Soup from the THM Cookbook for his birthday dinner. It makes a huge pot, so I froze the left-overs in single serving plastic canning jars.
Diffusing
My poor Maximilian threw up most of Saturday/Sunday early morning. Thanks be to God Chris handled it because I’m not so good at that type of illness. In the morning, when I realized what was going on, I asked Anna to put some Peppermint and Lavender on the soles of his feet. I also spent just a little bit of time this weekend reading about different oils that might be helpful after my surgery: Harmony, Clary Sage, Frankincense, Thyme, and Roman Chamomile.
(You can read here why I purchase my essential oils from Amazon instead of a distributor.)
Our Domestic Church…
We went to Stations of the Cross and soup dinner at our parish Friday night. I forget how much I love, love, love the Stations.
Saving Money…
We hired Veronica to paint for us, haha!

I agree with the comments that say rest. I tried doing too much right after my surgery and I had to stop. Rest, take care of yourself, let others do for you. Prayers for a successful surgery and no complications. God bless you.

Thanks Julie, I had to reschedule my surgery for the end of April since we were all so sick. And yes, I keep hearing “rest–rest–rest.” I texted my dr asking if I could go watch a soccer tournament 3 hours away one week after surgery–I’m pretty sure I could hear him laugh as he responded, “You won’t have the energy or stamina for that.”

hello, Dearest Jenny…..I know that having a hysterectomy, for whatever reason, is very scary…..for me I had been bleeding constant for a month, had a cyst rupture on my ovary, and had endometriosis….but, what might be a problem right now, will become relief and a healing that only comes from God….yes, He is with you, as you have said about your decision making process….and He will be with you when you get home…..
the pain, bleeding and main reason that you are having the surgery will all be gone; DO NOT let the devil get into your head about problems with your husband and such….if you didn’t need the surgery, the Dr.s wouldn’t have suggested it, and God would not have given you a “peace” about it….
all this might be “old news” to you, but just to let you know that you are in my prayers, and to let you know that I know something about how you might be feeling….
God bless you, and keep you in this time of trial…..Amen!
Bev

Thank you Beverly. I’m going to re-read this before surgery. Since we were so sick I’ve rescheduled for the end of April. I’m more nervous about how the surgery will affect me mentally verse physically.

Dear Jenny,
You can be sure of my prayers…
Please take care of yourself before and after the surgery.
Get plenty of rest (if possible!)
You are precious to many people – including me!
Jenny says
Thank you so much Clare. Because we were all so sick with the flu my surgery has been postponed until the end of April. I’ll keep you posted.

Jenny,
Rest assured of my prayers for surgery. I had major colon surgery a year and a half ago. I was a complete nervous wreck. but with the grace of God I made it through. My mantra was “I CAN do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.” And you can and will, too! God bless you!
Kelly says
First time poster on your blog–coming out of my quiet corner to assure you of my prayers for your upcoming surgery and for all involved in your care (medical, family, and friends, alike). Thank you for your blog. It is an encouragement.
Jenny says
Kelly I appreciate them. I’ve never had surgery and am pretty nervous to say the least.
Ellen says
I had a partial hysterectomy 2 years ago,my friends with experience TOLD me listen to your doctor. Whatever rest period they assign you,TAKE. It seems lazy, too much, whatever but it is required. Let everyone who wants to help, help! Prayers continue….
Jenny says
I’ve heard the same Ellen so I will force myself to remember. I appreciate the prayers more than you know.

Jenny I have taken sermon notes now for many years, and it’s amazing the reflections I gained from it. Prayers for you and rest assured, being a mile away, I’m available. Anyone can come to my house any time, I can pick up, and I can do a meal for you as well. I just hope no one gets sick from anything! Remember the after-baby meal?? I’m sure you do! Kellie
Jenny says
Thank you Kellie. Thankfully Chris and Veronica can drive, but if we get in a jam we may call.
Susan says
You said you were trying to make a big decision and it sure was big! Prayers for a successful surgery, swift recovery and peace in all of it.
Jenny says
Thank you Susan. My dr has mentioned the toll 7 big, fat babies has taken on my body the last couple of years and the time seems right to take care of it now. I of course sought Chris’ counsel first and he said he could see this coming, he just didn’t know when. I then sought the counsel of my spiritual director. He said morally I had a green light and he too felt like the timing was right. So, I prayed, listened and obeyed the good men God has placed in my life.
Claudia says
Sending you love and prayers for you, your family and the team of doctors and nurses that will be taking care of you. Know you are in the hands of God.
Jenny says
Thank you so much Claudia. I waver between trust and nervous wreck.
