I am participating again this year in the 31 Days Writing Challenge. Last year I wrote for 31 Days in the Book of Sirach. This year I will be writing on 31 Days of Bible Quotes. Bible Quotes is a topic I already write about and I love the challenge of spending the next 31 days writing about them. Since school and kids activities have started, my Bible reading habit has started to look a little fluid…some days pretty good and some days not so good. So to get myself back on track, I am publicly committing to spending the next 31 days writing about Bible Quotes.

Now, I recently spent the month of August writing about Bible Journaling…so why spend another month writing about the Bible? This blog, The Littlest Way, is so named in reference to Therese the Little Flower. She was a little nun, who lived in a cloistered convert and died at the age of 24. And yet, she is a Doctor of the Church and called one of the greatest saints of our time. She spent her days doing the little things, the ordinary tasks of what we often consider mundane days. And in those little tasks, she meditated on the scriptures. And to meditate on the scriptures, she had to read the scriptures.
“Above all it’s the gospels that occupy my mind when I’m at prayer. I’m always finding fresh lights there.”
-Saint Therese the Little Flower
Therese didn’t have the quantity of books available to us now. There were no bookstores or Amazon, Kindles or Nooks. Most people in her time owned very few if any books and if they did own a book, chances are it was the Holy Bible. Do you realize, we have the ability to read hundreds of book about the Bible or that quote from the Bible, without every having to read the Bible. I have bookshelves to prove my point. That’s not right you all.
I don’t know about you, but I am in need of some “fresh lights” and something good, true and beautiful to occupy my mind when I’m at prayer instead of my never ending to do list. Too much information? That my prayer life is slipping and my Bible reading kind of wishy washy? Good. Did I just hear a few weary mommas sigh an “I hear ya.” If you’re looking for “well put together,” you are so in the wrong place. If you’re looking for “trying,” welcome!
So, 31 Days of Bible Quotes…I will be reflecting and writing about the topics I’m flipping through my large print Bible (because my girlfriends were right, after 40 my eyes did change!) looking for; things like: patience, gentleness, gossip, mercy and forgiveness. If you’ve ever Googled “What does the Bible say about…” this series is for you! I pray during these 31 days, the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to God and encouragement to you.
