Pope John 23rd is quoted as saying,“The surest sign of a society becoming paganized is where Sunday is no longer a day of prayer and relaxation.” I could pretty much just stop right there couldn’t I? Let me just share one of the verses I found for Bible quotes I included in the free printable and few brief reflections about rest in the Bible.

What would you think if I said, “Rest is directly related to trust.” To rest, we have to trust that God will take care of things for us. But to trust, we have to take that leap of faith and rest. And I’m not just talking about physical rest either. I can be sprawled out on my bed or curled up on the couch seemingly inactive, but my mind…oh gracious my mind can run wild! There are more times in my life when I could use some physical activity but need to let my mind rest, instead of the other way around!
What do you need to rest from today?
What areas of your life do you need to hand over to God so your heart, mind and soul can be at rest?
Last Fall when my husband was traveling so much and the children and I were very sick, I listened to this song by Jamie Grace over and over, Come to Me. Here’s the video I would watch as I sat in line at the pharmacy time after time, day after day.
One of the verses that stood out to me as I was looking up verses on rest in the Bible was Deuteronomy 33:12
Of Benjamin he said, “The beloved of the Lord dwells in safety. The High God surrounds him all day long, and dwells between his shoulders.”
I did a little research and there is some symbolism about where a Temple was built and who came from whose line which eventually is the line Jesus came from… But to me, a non-Biblical scholar or theologian, I just can’t get over the use of the words “…dwells between his shoulders.” Y’all, where do we always hear people mention a physical place of stress? Between their shoulders and their neck area. What do we advise people to do to help relieve the physical symptoms of stress? Get a back massage, take a hot shower or sink down in a hot bubble bath.
Just something to think about…or not.

I take care of my 105 year old mom and having issues right now. Sometimes you come across the right things to read when you need them. This was one of those times. I need rest and sometimes you need to be reminded there is a God to help you. Thanks

Wow Bonnie, 105? What a blessing and a cross. I will pray for you and your mother today.
