For the past number of years, when asked about my mission and purpose in writing here on The Littlest Way, I have always said, “I write to encourage women to find their true value and worth in Christ, not the world, through Bible and Prayer journaling, reading good books and daily affirmations.”
While that’s still true, recently another, yet totally complementary mission and purpose statement came to mind.
My purpose is to know God through His Word, to share God through my words, and to use my words to help others use theirs.
I cannot tell you how much I love that mission and purpose statement! It sums up my writing desires exactly; it encapsulates the “what” and “why” I think God has given me a voice and the want to write, blog and share on social media–why else would an introvert be here? More importantly maybe? it includes what so many of you have told me via email and messages on social media. It always makes my heart so happy when one of you says, “You put into words what I’ve been feeling,” or “That’s what I’ve been feeling!”
Friends, this revelation is so important to me because it sums up the original mission and purpose statement of “…encouraging women to find their true value and worth in Christ, not the world.” This world is so dang noisy and I don’t have to tell you how much of the noise is toxic to our hearts, minds, and souls! I also don’t need to tell you how many words reek of death and not life.
I have always said I don’t want my words to be more noise, even if it’s a good noise to offset the bad noise…sometimes noise is noise plain and simple. But when I focus on The Word, God’s Word, everything changes.
So my primary focus for myself in the last year, especially the last eight months or so, has been God’s Word. I’ve been reading His Word almost like never before. I’ve literally been hungry for His Word and my time spent with Him in His Word!
Before when I would read His Word, so often, I would seek to find myself in it. Now, more often, I’m seeking Him. I shared in our Online Bible Study Group tonight that I’m studying God almost like you study a lover or a best friend.
When you study a lover or a best friend, you are watching and learning everything you can about them from their smallest, seemingly insignificant attributes and characteristics. You know what I’m talking about right? You observe them, gaining insight into who they are and why they are the way they are. It’s a beautiful time of intimate observation.
And now when I read the Scriptures, I’m closely watching God, picking up on His subtle attributes and characteristics; so much so our entire Bible study in our Online Bible Study Group this month is focused on Getting to Know God more and better.
Over and above all, I’m seeking His love, His glory, His faithfulness. And let me tell you, He does not disappoint! He even tells us in His Word that if we seek Him we will find Him. He’s not playing a game of hide and seek friends, He wants us to know Him more and better. He desires an intimacy unparalleled on this earth and only, I repeat, ONLY found in Him and with Him.
I have always shared freely here on The Littlest Way; I’ve shared about my struggles with anxiety, obsessive thoughts, and just plain ‘ol day to day struggles. I’ve shared glimpses into how God has moved and worked in my life through these trials and that’s what I’ll continue to do. But I hope to share even more of His Word than before. Obviously that happens organically in our Online Bible Study Community, but I feel this deep draw to share even more here (maybe because this past year was a butt kicker and I was fairly quiet here?) on the blog and social media.
Friends, for me it comes down to this, if I’m not sharing God and His Word, what am I sharing? I’ll say the same for you, if you’re not sharing God, what are you sharing?
So what are some ways we can share God? Not everyone blogs or has public social media accounts so how else can we share God and His Word in this troubled and noisy world? The very first thing we need to do is spend time with God; we cannot share someone we don’t know ourselves! Past that, it’s going to look different for each one of us–the stay at home momma of littles to the momma wedding dress shopping. It will look different for the woman working in an office to the woman working in a school or daycare. How about the momma who does all her grocery shopping online to the momma running by the store quickly after work or during a sports practice for one of her kiddos?
It doesn’t matter when or where friends, what matters is Who. Get to know God better so you can share Him more wherever and whenever.
