Description
The Book of Colossians is the next Bible Study available for download. Our Online Bible Study Community will be reading, writing, praying, and studying this book in community the month of November 2018.
The Book of Colossians is included among the so-called “Captivity Letters” of St. Paul, written while he was imprisoned. In researching the Book of Colossians I kept coming across references of how similar this book is to the Book of Ephesians. There is an exception according to the introduction of the Ignatius Study Bible, “Paul’s stance in Colossians is more aggressive, as he confronts false notions that are making inroads into the local Church and muddling the thinking of many young Christians.”
Again, from the introduction in the Ignatius Study Bible, “Two motifs stand out in Paul’s preaching: 1. The Supremacy of Christ and 2. The Completeness of Christians in Christ.”
The Book of Colossians contains some familiar scripture quotes:
“…lead a life worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and
increasing in the knowledge of God.” (1:10)
“…so live in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” (2:7)
“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (3:2)
” Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience,” (3:12)
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (3:17)
“Whatever your task, work heartily, as serving the Lord and not men,” (3:23)
“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer every one.” (4:6)
