Today I have a special treat for us for the month of June, Scripture Journal Printables! This printable prompts us to write scriptures for 21 days in the month of June. The month of June has long been dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Sacred Heart of Jesus is all about love and mercy. So this first set of Scripture Journal Printables is titled, 21 Days of Mercy.
I am constantly encouraging us to read our Bible! In the car, in the evening, with children climbing around us, just do it, and preferably everyday. But today I want us to take our Bible reading up a notch. Not only do I want us to read the Word, I also want us to write the Word, at least for the month of June…and not even the whole month, just 21 days using this Scripture Journal printable. If my math and calendar skills are correct–which, ahem, that might be the sound of my husband and children laughing in the background, that means we will be writing a verse or two a day Monday through Friday in June.
Before we get into the specifics of the Scripture Journal printables, let me give you a little backstory. This has been on my mind, this communal writing of the Word. I see other write the Word printables but as with most things related to the Scriptures, no matter how lovely and faithful the printable is, most of them do not include what many call the ‘Apocraphyl Books’ of the Bible. As Catholics, we believe the complete Bible contains 73 books. For a better understanding of the Apocraphyl Books, see this post, The Book of Sirach: Wisdom Comes From the Lord.
As I’ve been thinking about Scripture Journal Printables a sweet friend of The Littlest Way messaged me on Facebook asking if I knew of any ‘Write the Word’ printables that included all the books of the Bible. I told her I did not, but this was the motivation I needed to design one.
The first thing I needed to do was pick a topic or book of the Bible. I have long had a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and June was coming up which has been traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart. And devotion to the Sacred Heart is centered on mercy. And almost that fast, I had the idea for our first Scripture Journal printable! I already had ‘Mercy’ Scriptures pulled from the Bible Journaling Tips, Inspiration, and Permission Ebook, next I just needed to search the Apocryphal Books for ‘Mercy’ Scriptures.
To help me find more verses on ‘Mercy’ I used my Revised Standard Concordance. I specifically mention this because as I was verifying I had written down the correct Scriptures on mercy, I noticed the numbering of the verses and even the wording might be a little different depending on translations.
Now to answers some questions and give advice on how to get started.
1. Why write the Word?
Simple, to remember it. Simple, to engage more senses as we spend time in the Scriptures. Simple, we write down the things that matter and are important to us.
2. How should I write the Word?
However you wish. I do recommend a dedicated spiral, planner, notebook, etc, to keep your written Scriptures. (See below for some lovely Zip Pouch Journals from Dayspring or just click here.) After you’ve chosen your book, next decide if you are going to strictly write them or if you want to get creative with calligraphy or hand-lettering or a mix of all the above. Chose your writing supplies based on your answers to the above.
3. What Bible should I use?
One that contains all 73 Books of the Bible. This can be online or an actual book.
4. What Scriptures do I write?
You can certainly choose your own Scriptures and topics or you can use the Scripture Journal Printable I designed for the month of June, 21 Days of Mercy.
I have seen many write the Word Scripture Journal printables that are 30-31 days. Truth be told, I’ve even tried a few. More truth be told, I’ve never completed one. I get behind, I get discouraged, I give up. This printable is only for 21 days, meant to be used Monday through Friday. So if you have a super busy day and can’t write one day, you can write on Saturday or Sunday. Or both…we’ve all had those weeks! And if you get “behind,” please tell yourself there is no such thing! It’s not a race or competition and no one will ever know if you’re writing Day 15 in the middle of July.
Please complete this. Even if you end up writing in August. Do this for yourself. And if you need a cheerleader, I’m here! Email or message me and I will hold you accountable with lots of encouragement!!
